www.axiomnav.comAxiom, Traxsis merge to form GPS company

Oct 1, 2002 12:00 PM

Axiom Navigation Inc, producer of global positioning system (GPS) technology, has acquired Burlingame CA-based Traxsis, a provider of software that locates mobile users connected to cellular networks. The combined company will offer products that allow cellular telephone users to use many location-based services (LBS). The product will also support the E911 initiative, allowing users to transmit their position in an emergency.

Axiom's compact GPS engine has been integrated into Traxsis' X-Pak cellular battery pack and combined with its X-GPS location server technology. The resulting product allows an accurate location to be transmitted wirelessly, viewable worldwide via the Internet on a digitized map. Once location information is transmitted, users can monitor the position of their mobile assets, locate people, receive assistance in an emergency, or take advantage of LBS that include turn-by-turn directions to particular points of interest.
