Cummins named lead sponsor for World LNG Fuels 2014

Oct. 15, 2013

Global engine manufacturer Cummins Inc will lead a field of 30 sponsors and alliance partners supporting World LNG Fuels 2014, which will be held at the Houston TX George R Brown Convention Center January 12-13, 2014.

Cummins projects that by 2020, nearly 30% of its high-horsepower engine production will be natural gas fueled due to an increasing abundance of shale gas and its relative low cost. Cummins currently is working to fuel its “Hedgehog” family of engines with natural gas, complementing the QSK95, a 95-liter engine unveiled in 2011 that will be the company’s largest high-speed diesel. It also is developing an in-house 15-liter heavy-duty natural gas engine for on-highway applications, which is expected to be in production by 2016 to complement existing gas engines, including the ISX12G, the ISL G, and ISB6.7G.

“We’re delighted Cummins will host tours of its Houston Oil and Gas Center of Excellence on Jan. 21,” saysWorld LNG Fuels program chairman Bob Nimocks. “The oilfield services industry is leading the charge when it comes to fueling with natural gas. Already 5% of its power units are gas fueled, which is up from zero three years ago.”
