Dec 1, 2006 12:00 PM

The Volvo Group plans to reduce the workforce at two of its Mack Trucks Inc and Volvo facilities because of an expected decline in demand for heavy-duty trucks in 2007.

Volvo's North American powertrain facility in Hagerstown MD expects to reduce employment in the first half of 2007 by about 600 positions. This facility employs about 1,770 people. The reductions are expected to be made incrementally during the first half of 2007.

Mack plans to reduce employment over the next six months by about 450 positions at its Macungie PA truck assembly plant. The Macungie plant employs about 1,040 people. The first reductions will take effect before the end of 2006.
