Hino to provide UltraShift HV on 09 trucks

Aug 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Eaton Corporation's UltraShift Highway Value (HV) transmission will be offered by Hino Trucks on its 2009 model year 268A and 338 trucks. By combining the UltraShift HV with the 268A and 338, Hino is providing the opportunity to spec a Class 6 and 7 truck built for maximum fuel efficiency and simpler maintenance.

Recent tests conducted by an independent firm in accordance with SAE J1526 Joint TMC/SAE Fuel Consumption In-Service Test Procedure, Type III, measured the UltraShift HV transmission against a conventional automatic transmission. The UltraShift HV transmission delivered fuel economy savings from six to 19 percent, depending on the duty cycle. With diesel prices at $3.70 per gallon, fuel savings for one truck that runs 25,000 in a year could range from $700 to $1,300 per year with the UltraShift HV transmission.

The UltraShift HV transmission is a fully automated transmission system for Class 6 and 7 vehicles with diesel engines in the 195- to 260-horsepower range. The HV can handle torque capacities up to 660 ft-lb and loads up to 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.
