Gates to close Utah distribution center

Gates Corp, Denver CO, will be closing its Salt Lake City UT distribution center in the summer of 2009, the second facility closing announced by the company this month.
The Salt Lake City center services automotive aftermarket customers, and employs 42 associates. The company said it has been able to reduce the inventory and consolidate it to a distribution center that is more centrally located and closer to Gates' manufacturing base. The facility was opened in 1991.
Gates announced earlier it would be closing the London, Ontario, Canada, power transmission facility and plans to transition a portion of its operations to a facility in Windsor, Ontario, by the end of the second quarter of 2009. Full closure of the facility in Canada is expected by December 2009.
