for Canadian fleets in US

Canada-domiciled trucking companies would be allowed to operate in the United States with insurance provided through Canadian insurance companies if a Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) is adopted.
Currently, Canada-domiciled motor carriers operating in the United States must maintain insurance policies issued by US insurance companies as evidence of financial responsibility. The proposed change would not affect the minimum levels of financial responsibility that carriers must now maintain under US regulations.
The FMCSA action was prompted by a petition for rulemaking that was filed by the Canadian government. Public comments must be filed with FMCSA by August 10.
Comments must be identified by the Docket #FMCSA-2006-26262 and/or RIN 2126-AB05. The Federal Document Management System website at www.regulations.gov is the preferred method for submitting comments.
