Price of diesel fuel falls
for third straight week

The average price of diesel fuel nationwide has dropped for a third straight week, decreasing 5.2 cents to $2.542 a gallon, according to US Department of Energy information.

This drop put the price of diesel $2.222 below year-ago levels, when it reached its all-time record of $4.764 a gallon July 14, 2008.

A week ago, the average price was $2.594 per gallon. The past three Mondays have shown a slight decrease after a few weeks of increases.

The least expensive place to purchase a gallon of diesel: the Gulf Coast ($2.494). The most expensive: the Central Atlantic region ($2.663).
