VOC Regulation to Be Discussed at NTTC Meeting

Aug 14, 2001 12:00 PM, Modern Bulk Transporter staff

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been working on development of a nationwide regulation that would require vapor recovery for transportation of hundreds of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs). In most cases, this will mandate either some retrofit or the addition of appliances to MC307/DOT407 and MC312/DOT412 cargo tanks.

Though EPA has not yet published the final version of its regulations, it is in the final stages of clearance before publication. Since these regulations will impact cargo tank (and component) manufacturers, shippers, consignees, and carriers, the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) has coordinated with the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association (TTMA) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to schedule a one-day, “fly-in/fly-out” meeting on this subject. The session has been set for 10 am September 13 at the Ramada Plaza O’Hare Hotel in Chicago IL.

The purpose of the meeting is:

•To familiarize all parties with the potential scope of the EPA regulations.

•To develop consensus around a draft TTMA Recommended Practice on this subject.

NTTC has reserved a block of rooms at the Ramada. For reservations, phone 847-827-5131 and mention the Tank Truck VOC meeting. To participate in this meeting, phone Cliff Harvison at 703-838-1960, fax him at 703-684-5753, or e-mail charvison@tanktruck.org.
