Blackmer adds to DEF transfer pump line

May 9, 2012 9:22 AM

Blackmer is providing the STX2A-DEF sliding vane pump,  designed specifically for use in applications that require the handling of  diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

DEF became an increasingly important part of the  motor-fuel supply chain in January 2010, when the US Environmental Protection  Agency’s Tier 2, Stage IV Emission Standards for Light-Duty and Heavy-Duty  Vehicles went into effect. One technology chosen by vehicle and engine  manufacturers to facilitate this nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction is called  selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which injects DEF—a mixture of 32.5% chemical  urea and 67.5% deionized water—into the vehicle’s exhaust system where the NOx  is then converted into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.

Blackmer designed its new STX2A-DEF pump to be compatible  with DEF similar to its STX3-DEF and STX1220-DEF predecessors, but at lower  flow rates end-users require—from 15 to 60 gpm (60 to 227 lpm).

Other features of the STX2A-DEF pump include:

•Meets ISO 22241 material standards and cleanliness  specifications required for DEF applications

  •316 stainless steel construction

•Push rods allow for slower pump speeds of 350-780 rpm

  •Maximum viscosities of 4,600 SSU (970 cSt)

  •PTFE elastomers

  •90-degree porting with weld flanges

•Dimensional interchangeability with Blackmer TXD2,  TXD1220, and STX1220A pump models

  •Standard Duravanes

•Ball-bearing construction with PTFE chemical mechanical  seals

  •Internal adjustable relief valve

•Three drain ports for draining in any mounting position
