Lest we forget that terrorists continue to target the United States for attack, federal authorities issued an alert on June 23 warning of a possible terrorist attack on metropolitan New York City. No date or time was given for the alleged terrorist attack.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police increased security after learning of a terrorist threat “advising them to be on the lookout for a loaded fuel tanker meant to explode prior to a secondary blast designed to kill any first responders.” The warning suggested that the petroleum transport might come from Canada. While the threat came from an unconfirmed source, New York City law enforcement officials were taking it seriously.

Law enforcement officials asked tank truck fleets operating in the Northeast to make drivers aware of the potential threat. Drivers are being asked to remain alert and watch for any unusual activity. Most importantly, drivers must ensure that their loaded vehicles are locked at all times, including while driving.
