Price of diesel fuel reaches highest level so far in 2009

The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide has climbed 2.7 cents to $2.652, its highest price this year, according to US Department of Energy information.

This increase marks the fourth straight week diesel’s price has risen. However, this jump falls short of the previous week’s 7.5-cent advance. Diesel’s per-gallon price registered a record high of $4.764 in mid-July 2008.

The least expensive region for diesel fuel is the Gulf Coast at $2.607, and the most costly is California at $2.872.
