The International Tank Container Association (ITCO) has posted information on its Web Site about an incident that occurred aboard a ship in the Baltic Sea

The International Tank Container Association (ITCO) has posted information on its Web Site at itco.be about an incident that occurred aboard a ship in the Baltic Sea where some non-ISO units collapsed that were stacked beneath three ISO tank containers that did not suffer damage.

"Fortunately little damage was done to the ship and no one suffered injuries but the outcome could have been catastrophic given that the top three containers in the stack on this ship were carrying butylene gas in ISO tanks," Reginald Lee, ITCO president, said in a statement on the ITCO Web site.

The incident occurred in February of 2007 aboard the Annabella on a voyage from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Antwerp, Belgium, to Helsinki, Finland. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) based in the United Kingdom investigated the incident and issued a report in September of 2007.

A presentation on the incident and related information about ISO tank containers is posted on the ITCO site.
