ATRI/FMCSA team upon onboard systems

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) teaming up on the design of field tests for onboard safety systems (OSS)

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) are currently collaborating on the design of field tests for onboard safety systems (OSS).

The goal is to generate data and analyses allowing carriers to improve OSS investment decision-making. During the last several years, FMCSA partnered with the trucking industry to test and evaluate the safety benefits of several onboard systems, such as lane departure warning, collision warning, and stability control systems. This latest initiative provides an important opportunity for trucking industry stakeholders and FMCSA to better understand the role of OSS in improving safety.

As part of this initiative, ATRI is conducting a confidential survey of motor carriers, focusing on OSS use and related issues. The responses will be used to design a field test blueprint that will generate meaningful data, allowing industry stakeholders to better understand the impact of OSS on safety and operations. The survey is available online at truckline.com.
