Salco Products Inc., a supplier of plastic and metal components to the freight transportation industries, has been appointed exclusive distributor to the rail market by Girard Equipment Inc. for its pressure relief valves and components. Under the agreement, Salco will inventory Girard valves and parts, and will help establish market interest within the rail market for its valves and related components.

Girard Equipment is one of North America's leading builders of safety equipment for the tank trailer industry. Its line of pressure relief vents and magnetic vacuum breakers for both MC307 and DOT 407 specification tank trailers have become industry standards.

The Teflon-lined Girard pressure relief valve is primarily used in corrosive applications or where high product purity needs to be maintained. The non-lined version can be used in many general service applications. It safely and reliably relieves excess pressure that would otherwise create a precarious condition in a tank car. The body of the Girard valve is constructed of investment-cast 316L stainless steel, and its surfaces are Teflon spray-coated. Interior wetted parts are covered with a seamless Teflon liner. Girard valves have a rugged, low-profile design that includes a quick disassembly feature for ease of maintenance. The Girard pressure relief valve is available in standard flange configurations (three- and four-bolt) and Salco engineers are ready to assist should other flange options be required. The valve is approved for use by the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
