Chicago provided plenty of activity for the National Tank Truck Carriers Inc (NTTC) members who attended the 52nd annual conference and tank truck equipment show. Chicago has hosted the association many times over the years and remains a popular venue.

Business covered during the conference included a decision to table any vote on whether or not to remain an affiliate of the American Trucking Associations (ATA). Despite not voting itself in or out, NTTC will cease to be an official part of ATA at the end of 2000.

Speakers at the meeting covered a wide range of topics that included discussions of the tank truck industry economic outlook for the rest of the year, proposed changes to the hours-of-service regulations, the impact of proposed new ergonomics rules, the growing importance of e-commerce, and the Six Sigma quality initiative that is moving through the chemical shipper community.

Among the approximately 600 people attending the conference and trade show were carrier executives, supplier representatives, spouses, and government officials. Fifty-six exhibitors participated in the event.
