Western Star Trucks has announced upgrades to its line of trucks and tractors, including new insulation for cabs and sleepers, a redesigned hood for the 109-inch BBC 4900 SA model, and an all-wheel drive options for the 6900 XD model. All the announcements were made as a part of Western Star's participation in the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky.

Beginning later in 2005, all Western Star products will be built with a new insulation package for the cab and sleeper to enhance sound absorption and to achieve lighter weight. The new insulation will be installed on the walls, ceiling, and around the exhaust cutout between the cab and sleeper. Reflective film on the insulation will provide thermal insulation in addition to the sound-deadening properties of the material.

The hood of the 109-inch 4900 SA has been redesigned to integrate it into the family appearance of the 123-inch 4900 SA. The hood is sloped for improved visibility and less drag in a setback front axle configuration. Polished stainless steel air intakes sit in pockets in the fenders along the rear edge of the hood on both sides.

Western Star now offers the Hendrickson Haulmaxx and Primaxx rear suspensions throughout the product line. Haulmaxx is a walking beam suspension designed for maximum payload and low maintenance. Primaxx is an air suspension for vocational and heavy applications.

For the toughest jobs, Western Star now offers all-wheel drive on the 6900 XD Twin-Steer truck and tractor. The new model is larger and more powerful than previous versions of the Twin-Steer.
