Starting in the third quarter 2005, enhanced stability control will become standard equipment on all Volvo VN and VT series tractors. The enhanced stability control system works by selectively applying brakes on individual wheels as determined by driving conditions, vehicle speed, and data from onboard sensors, reducing speed while keeping the tractor/trailer combination in proper alignment. The system uses Bendix ABS-6 antilock brakes, previously announced as the standard ABS system for all Volvo VN and VHD trucks and tractors. Enhanced stability control also provides the capability to reduce vehicle speed rapidly while a combination is turning as a way of reducing the risk of roll-over incidents.
