Venezia Transport Services Inc, Limerick PA, has implemented the TMWSuite enterprise solution program from TMW Systems Inc, Cleveland OH, according to information from TMW.

The diversity of the Venezia operation creates complex business scenarios, says Louis Capolino, Venezia vice-president, operations. Included are operating divisions that share resources, a high level of service demands by customers, and a variety of business and resource requirements that require the elimination of any errors in the equipment assignment process.

"We now have a complete enterprise systems which allows us greater insight into our operation and makes it easier to share information and pass accurate data back and forth instantaneously," says Capolino.

A diversified freight transportation and logistics company, Venezia offers local and over-the-road dry bulk, tanker, flatbed, and van services to a variety of customers and industries. The company specializes in dedicated dry, liquid, propane, petroleum, chemical, and foodgrade bulk delivery. The Venezia fleet of 400 tractors and 800 trailers operates from seven facilities in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions.

“We came to the conclusion that purchasing entirely new operating and information management systems was the best route to take,” Capolino says. “The decision was made after evaluating a number of competitive systems, visiting other clients, and hosting on-site demonstrations."

After carefully evaluating what it was spending each year to make its existing information system up to date and effective, Venezia realized that TMWSuite could meet its needs efficiently and cost effectively, according to TMW. Another reason for Venezia’s decision was that the carrier’s existing financial package was lacking functions it needed to streamline its operation.

“The full integration between TMWSuite and the Microsoft Great Plains accounting package was also an important part of our decision,” Capolino says. “We did not have a full accounting package before, and we were very impressed with the fully integrated features between the two systems. We also felt that both our existing system and the other solutions on the market did not address the particular needs of bulk carriers.

"TMW’s Bulk Steering Committee, on the other hand, is the best thing going. The interaction with other similar carriers, backed by software designed with bulk operations in mind, made us realize the value of being able to get together to share ideas, and help develop the latest versions of the TMWSuite enterprise solution. We believe in the value of the steering committee so much that Kristi Venezia is a board member of the committee.”

Venezia’s involvement in the TMW Bulk Steering Committee builds on a relationship between Capolino and Tom Weisz, chief executive officer and president of TMW Systems. Both men are active members of the Truckload Carriers Association, where Capolino uses his more than 20 years of trucking and transportation management experience as chairman of the TCA recruiting and retention panel, and Weisz heads up the TCA membership committee, according to TMW.
