Union Pacific Railroad (UP) expects to complete construction on a new $181 million intermodal facility in Rochelle IL in July of 2003, according to UP information. The new intermodal facility will be named Global III. Global I and II are located in Chicago, along with three other intermodal facilities Union Pacific serves.

"Global III is another example of Union Pacific Railroad's unwavering commitment to our intermodal customers," said Ike Evans, president and chief operating officer. "This state-of-the-art facility will help us increase the ability to efficiently handle the growing rail-truck freight market in Chicago and the upper Midwest while keeping the environment in mind."

The new Global III facility is being built on former agricultural land. On-site storm water detention ponds are being constructed to lessen the current storm water runoff. Stored storm water will be released into the Kyte River, at a controlled rate.
