The National TRANSCAER Task Group has presented the 2005 TRANSCAER (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) National Achievement Award to Shell Chemical LP for its commitment to the principles of TRANSCAER.

TRANSCAER staff executive Nancy White said, “Shell Chemical organized or assisted with multiple events that trained over 215 responders on hazardous materials awareness, emergency response, and railroad operations.” In addition, Shell Chemical's Rick Ferguson served as TRANSCAER's State Coordinator for Texas in 2004 and 2005, providing leadership and financial support for the program.

Staff members of Shell Chemical's Deer Park and Norco plant emergency response teams provided training to local emergency responders in Andalusia AL, and personnel from Shell Chemical's Geismar LA plant worked to reinvigorate the Louisiana TRANSCAER effort.

The award was presented June 8 in Galveston TX to Shell Chemical on behalf of the National TRANSCAER Task Group by the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care director, Amy DuVall, at the Texas Chemical Council's annual Environment, Health, and Safety Conference.
