NATIONAL Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) will feature topics on family-owned businesses, driver recruitment and retention, and ultra low sulfur diesel — just to name a few issues — at its annual conference and trade show May 7-9 in San Antonio, Texas, says John Conley, NTTC president.
“The majority of the companies in the tank truck industry are family-owned businesses,” Conley points out. “Anyone interested in running, or purchasing, a family-owned tank truck carrier will be interested in a presentation by Terry and Leon Resnick of Resnick Associates.”
Titled Strategic Concepts to Ensure the Long-Term Survival of Your Trucking Company and Family Harmony, the discussion will provide information on planning the future of the family business, whether it is to remain in the family or sold.
“Attendees also will hear from former NTTC Chairman Bob Boncosky, who will discuss how his family reached the decision to sell its company,” Conley says.
Another presentation, one that targets the driver situation, will be made by Kelly Anderson, president of Impact Transportation Solutions.
“Driver recruitment and retention remain top challenges to all trucking top executives, especially to those in the tank truck industry that has even more demanding standards,” Conley says. “Impact Transportation Solutions has developed a reputation for practical techniques for attacking these challenges.”
The meeting also will feature a panel presentation by shippers from different tank truck customer segments.
Also on the program is a special session for carriers that transport ultra low sulfur diesel.
Martin Labbe of Martin Labbe Associates will provide an annual marketing report.
NTTC's 2006 conference gets underway May 7 at 1 pm when the NTTC Executive Committee meets, followed at 3 pm when registration and the equipment show open.
On May 8, the opening breakfast starts the day at 8 am with keynote speaker Fred Haise, a former astronaut and business executive.
Following the breakfast, the equipment show opens at 9:30 am. The general session begins at 11 am after which the carrier/exhibitor buffet lunch starts at 12:30 pm. Exhibits are open from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm when the NTTC Chairman's Reception begins.
May 9 features the NTTC Safety Awards Breakfast at 8 am followed by the trade show from 9:30 am until 11 am. Another general session gets underway at 11 am. The annual NTTC Membership and Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
One of the highlights of the convention, the Allied Committee for the Trucking Industry Reception and Dinner, begins at 6 pm at the Knibbe Ranch near San Antonio. Founded in 1854, the ranch is rich in German heritage and culture reminiscent of the early European immigrants.
A fifth generation descendant, Charles J (Chuck) Knibbe and his wife, Sharon, and their children, Shannon and Chad, are the present managers of ranch. The land has been in continuous agricultural operation by the same family since 1854 and is recognized as a Century Heritage ranch by the State of Texas.
The NTTC attendees will enjoy dinner and entertainment at the facility. Dress for the evening is Texas casual.
On Wednesday, May 10, NTTC will wrap up the meeting with a “get-away” coffee and pastries for attendees.
