Several tank truck carriers have received safety awards from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council. Truck safety awards are presented to the top three carriers in each commodity division and mileage class with the lowest accident rates per million vehicle miles of operation for 2000. National industrial safety awards recognize the top three carriers in each commodity division that had the lowest overall injury frequency rate, in terms of the number of lost-time cases per 200,000 employee-hours of exposure for 2000.

Winners were announced September 26, at ATA's 2001 Safety and Loss Prevention Management Council Fall Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Awards presented in the truck safety contest include:

Tank Trucks-Line-Haul, 0-25 million miles, first place: Schiber Truck Company Inc, Hartford IL, Neil McInnis Jr, vice-president; second place: Rossborough Mfg, Walkerton Division, Walkerton IN, Paul Rogowski, quality and safety coordinator; and third place: Cast Transportation Inc, Henderson CO, Richard Eshe, president.

Tank Trucks-Line-Haul, over 25 million miles, first place: Manfredi Motor Transit Company, Newbury OH, Fred Sajewski, director of safety, claims and insurance; second place: Trimac Transportation, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Marcel Pouliot, director safety services; third place: Suttles Truck Leasing LLC, Demopolis, Al, Bob Bonich, vice-president, human resources.

Tank Trucks-Local, unlimited mileage, first place: Schiber Truck Company, Inc, Hartford IL, Neil McInnis Jr, vice-president; second place: Cast Transportation Inc, Henderson CO, Richard Eshe, president; third place, Ed Rocha Transportation Inc, Modesto CA, Edward A Rocha, president.

Improvement Awards made to carriers recognized for strides made to decrease accident rates for the past year: tank truck division, division winner: Usher Transport Inc, Louisville KY, Michael Baker, director of safety; additional tank truck carriers recognized, Economy Carriers Limited, Ergon Trucking Inc, Kenan Transport Company, Manfredi Motor Transport Company, and Wynne Transport Service.

Winners in the industrial safety contest include:

Up to 300 employees, first place: Rossborough Mfg, Rogowski; second place: Sinclair Trucking Company, Salt Lake City UT, Rod Grimme, manager, truck operations; and third place: Usher Transport Inc, Baker.

Over 300 employees, first place: Manfredi Motor Transit Company, Sajewski; second place: Kenan Transport Company, John Krovic, vice-president, human resources and safety; and third place: Trimac Transportation, Pouliot.
