Sterling Truck Corp has introduced product enhancements and options for L-Line Class 7 and 8 vocational trucks. The firm's air-ride cab suspension is now standard equipment for L-Line vocational trucks, including those in severe-duty applications. Cab air ride suspension is standard now on straight trucks up to 98,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, and on all tractors up to 190,000 pounds gross combination weight.
A new optional bumper with center-pull capability is available for vocational trucks in severe-duty service. This bumper features a heavy-duty steel crossmember behind the center section with a tow eye that protrudes through it. This allows a truck to be towed out of heavy mud without distorting the frame. The center-pull bumper is available on tractors and trucks up to 190,000 pounds GCW.
A three-piece bumper has bolt-on, breakaway ends that can be reattached or replaced after a collision. In a strong impact, end-section brackets at the bolt-on ends absorb the force and give way, so the bumper's center part remains intact. Damaged ends can be replaced. This bumper is an option on L-Line trucks.
An optional suspended pedal configuration for the L-Line suspends accelerator, clutch, and brake pedals from the firewall. This helps prevent accumulation of dirt and debris.
Sterling also has enhanced the electrical system for the A-Line of highway tractors and L-Line of trucks. The new system simplifies customizing a truck's wiring and adds electrical functions. The system is standard on A-Line and L-Line models.
The design allows more flexibility in making electrical connections between chassis and body. Now, body manufacturers can use at least six standard locations when making power connections to the chassis.
The electrical system also provides optional locations for body manufacturers to interface with the chassis. On the firewall, a pair of positive locking bulkhead connectors are installed for wiring to pass through the firewall to the cab interior.
