United States Sen Richard Lugar (R-IN) and several members of his staff recently visited Integrity Biofuels, central Indiana's first biodiesel production plant. While there, Lugar presented Charles “Shorty” Whittington, president of Integrity, with the US flag that flew over the US Capitol at his request honoring Integrity for contribution to the nation's energy security through promotion of renewable fuels.

Lugar toured the production facility, including a briefing on the soybean oil processing plant operated next door by Bunge North America, which supplies feedstock for Integrity to produce soy biodiesel. He mentioned that soybeans from his own family farm are crushed at the Bunge plant, and the bean oil is then shipped to Integrity and processed into renewable fuel.

After the tour, the group headed to Knightstown IN to the GasAmerica truck stop at Interstate 70 and State Road 109. Lugar then presented Stephanie White, GasAmerica's chief executive officer, with the July 2007 Lugar Energy Patriot award. This award recognizes professionals, students, or businesses for leadership and initiative in taking concrete action to reduce America's dependence on foreign energy sources.
