Schneider National Inc, Green Bay WI, will reimburse eligible company drivers based on a portion of their mileage rate, tax-free, for each night spent away from home, according to Schneider information.
The carrier is implementing the new per diem pay package option effective January 1, 2006.
For each night away from home, defined by the Internal Revenue Service as a 24-hour period, drivers are reimbursed up to $52 tax-free.
Schneider can offer this option to its fleet because over-the-road driving has a high frequency of time away from home.
Approximately 60-70 percent of Schneider's drivers will qualify for the program.
