“The American Trucking Associations and its motor carrier members express their appreciation for a job well done," said Bill Graves, American Trucking Associations (ATA) president and chief executive officer. "She and her team of safety professionals consistently demonstrated a willingness to openly examine motor carrier concerns and issues while maintaining the highest commitment to highway safety.

"During her tenure, the truck-involved injury crash rate decreased 13 percent while the truck-involved fatal crash rate dropped to its lowest point since the Department of Transportation began keeping records in 1975."

Sandberg, an attorney was appointed to the post at the FMCSA August 1, 2003, after serving as deputy administrator. Prior to her appointment as FMCSA deputy administrator, she was deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

She formerly served as chief of the Washington State Patrol for six years after being in a variety of law enforcement, supervisory, and administrative posts.
