A dramatic accident involving a hydrogen gas shipment has prompted the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) of the Department of Transportation to take a close look at tube trailers, according to Stan Staniszewski with RSPA. The agency is contemplating regulations similar to those that apply to the operation of MC330/331 and MC338 trailers. Speaking at the National Tank Truck Carriers’ annual Cargo Tank Maintenance Seminar in Chicago IL, November 4-6, Staniszewski said that the agency believes more accident protection is needed, especially overturn protection.
