Electrical power has been restored to some of the refineries that were affected by Hurricane Katrina, and some other refineries are expected to have power restored within the next 7-10 days, according to information from the Department of Energy.

The restoration should allow some refineries to begin producing again in the near future, but other refineries that were damaged more extensively from the hurricane may be down for some time to come. Here are some petroleum updates:

•Marathon Oil Corp, Houston TX, is focusing refinery recovery activities on the company's Garyville LA facility, which has 245,000 barrels per day of crude oil processing capacity, according to company information.

•ExxonMobil's second largest US refinery, located in Baton Rouge LA, will be increasing the production of gasoline and other fuel products over the next several days and will promptly ramp-up production rates further as crude supply from the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port increases.

•Murphy Oil Corp, El Dorado AR, said after the hurricane that some flooding occurred at the company's 125,000 barrel a day refinery in Meraux LA, but the facility sustained no major damage.

•Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), a key crude oil entry to the Gulf Coast area, is now receiving crude oil tankers, according to the port information.
