DOUGLAS Brinkley, director of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies and a specialist in military and diplomatic history, will headline the National Tank Truck Carriers annual convention scheduled May 18-21 in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Marriott Hotel.
Brinkley will speak at the opening breakfast Monday, May 19, and will discuss politics, United States history, and World War II.
A prolific writer, Brinkley has served as historical consultant for an ABC combat photography television documentary produced by Stephen Speilberg and directed by Tom Hanks. In addition, he provides broadcast commentary for several networks and is a contributing editor for several national magazines and newspapers.
In addition to Brinkley, the NTTC program lineup on Monday includes an environmental update by Bill McNutt, WCM Group, and a marketing forecast by Martin Labbe of Labbe Associates. At 6 pm the chairman's reception will get underway.
On Tuesday, Bill Graves, former Kansas governor and new American Trucking Associations president, will be guest speaker at the annual Safety Awards Breakfast. Cherry Burke of DuPont will discuss carrier security and risk assessment followed by Larry DiNardo of Jones-Day, who will provide a labor issues update. At 1:15 pm, an NTTC membership and board of directors meeting commences. A reception and dinner dance will cap the convention festivities Tuesday night.
