The Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) has said it will file comments in support of a move that is challenging a Boston MA decision that designates certain hazardous materials routes.

The Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) has said it will file comments in support of a move that is challenging a Boston MA decision that designates certain hazardous materials routes, according to PMAA information.

PMAA is joining the American Trucking Associations (ATA), which has appealed to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to determine if the Boston action preempts federal law. ATA's appeal was announced by FMCSA in the August 8 publication of the Federal Register.

PMAA said it believes that if the decision by the City of Boston goes unchecked, it will set a dangerous precedent for other municipalities to issue similar restrictions.

Among other concerns, ATA argues that the city's current permitting system "effectively bans the through transportation of hazardous materials."
