The Ontario, Canada, Trucking Association (OTA) is seeking nominees for professional truck drivers to serve as industry ambassadors on the association's 2009-2010 Road Knights Team.

The program is open to both company drivers and owner-operators, but nominees must be based in Ontario and currently employed as a full-time truck driver by an OTA member company

OTA Road Knights are professional transport drivers with first class driving records who meet with community groups to share their knowledge about how to safely share the road with trucks. Their mission is to make roadways safer by encouraging all road users to be partners in safety. They also make presentations about careers in trucking and the importance of the industry to Canada’s economy, according to the OTA information.

The time requirement to serve on the team is about one or two days each month. Duties include speaking to job seekers about career opportunities and booth staffing at public safety exhibitions. Some of the presentations Road Knights deliver include: Sharing the Road with Trucks, Sharing the Road with Cars, and Careers in the Trucking Industry. The OTA provides media relations and public speaking training and sets up the engagements. Sample speeches, videos, and brochures are also provided by the association.

A nomination form is available by clicking here for the OTA Web site, or contact Rebecka Torn at 416-249-7401 extension 224, or at [email protected].
