Each year during Christmas week, Eldon MO-based Opies Transport Inc recognizes one outstanding driver from its fleet of 125 drivers. Recipient of the 2002 Driver of the Year was Donald “D W” Powers of Williamsburg MO, who has worked for Opies since June 1989. He was chosen for this service and safety award based upon his years of service, dedication to safety, and excellent service. Powers was awarded a trip for two to Cancun, Mexico.

Other employees recently honored at Opies include Mark Kirkweg of Eldon, who is employed as a mechanic and shop foreman. He was recognized for 20 years of employment and received a $2,000 cash bonus in recognition of his service.

Over-the-road driver Harold Maples of Holts Summit MO was recognized for 10 years of employment. Over the past 10 years, he has logged more than one million accident-free miles. In March 2002, he participated in the Mid-America Trucking Show Beauty Championship in Louisville KY and took third place for first-time entrants. In appreciation of Maples' years of service, he received a $1,000 cash bonus.
