Walter Bruno Hoyer, one of the pioneers of Europe's tank truck industry, died Dec 17, 2002, in Hamburg, Germany. He was 87. In 1946, Hoyer founded the company that would become Hoyer GmbH Internationale Fachspedition, one of the largest liquid and dry bulk logistics operations in the world with 4,000 employees and 1,000 subcontractors. Under Hoyer's leadership, the company took a prominent role in promoting new technologies for bulk transport and storage. From its start as a milk hauler, the company expanded into a wide range of liquid and dry bulk cargoes, both hazardous and non-hazardous. Hoyer trucks delivered some of the first shipments of fresh milk to Berlin after the Soviet blockade was lifted in 1949.
