Lawrence Botkin, a mechanical engineer who served as director of engineering at Fruehauf Corp, died February 4 after triple-bypass surgery January 27.

Lawrence Botkin, a mechanical engineer who served as director of engineering at Fruehauf Corp, died February 4 after triple-bypass surgery January 27. In his career, Botkin received patents on 18 inventions, including the automatic shutoff feature on gasoline pump nozzles. He worked for Butler Mfg in Kansas City MO and Buckeye Iron and Brass in Dayton OH before joining Fruehauf at its Uniontown PA plant. He moved to Fruehauf's Omaha NE office in 1966 and remained there until his retirement in 1992. During his 31 years at Fruehauf, he became an expert in the design and construction of cargo tanks. After retirement, Botkin worked as a consultant on small engineering projects and provided expert witness testimony for product liability lawsuits.
