POLITICS and industry issues will headline the program at the annual National Tank Truck Carriers meeting May 10-12 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Featured on the program are Charles Cook, political analyst; Danny Shelton, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Martin Labbe, Labbe & Associates. In addition, suppliers will be displaying their latest product innovations at the trade show.
“I'm very upbeat about this year's conference,” says Cliff Harvison, NTTC president. “Reports from our members indicate that the tank truck industry is off to a strong start in 2004.
“This year's conference program will blend the concepts of safety, security, an economic forecast and developments in the labor arena. “I'm also quite confident that our industry's suppliers who will join us in the exhibit hall will share my optimism.
“The past three years have been a rough road for carriers and suppliers alike, but we're well positioned for a breakout year.
“Of course, it's an election year and our opening speaker, Charles Cook, one of the nation's most accurate political fore-caster, should prove to be both entertaining and informative.”
Cook, editor and publisher of The Cook Political Report, is a political analyst for National Journal magazine, CongressDailyAM, NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC.
He helps oversee the Ipsos-Reid/Cook Political Report national poll, which conducts surveys of 1,000 adults twice monthly on their attitudes towards politics and the economy.
Cook's speaking topics include a broad overview of upcoming elections, an examination of agendas of President Bush and Congress, as well as insights on policy-making in Washington.
Shelton will give an update on FMCSA rules and regulations and discuss security measures. Labbe, a regular at the annual meeting, will present a state-of-the-industry economic report.
The speaker on current labor issues in the trucking industry will be J Howard Daniel of Haynsworth, Baldwin, Johnson and Greaves LLC of Greenville South Carolina.
A highlight of the Las Vegas meeting will be the presentation of carrier safety awards at the breakfast May 12.
