Norfolk Southern opens new intermodal terminal in Georgia

Norfolk Southern Railway Company, Norfolk VA, has announced the opening of a new Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer (TBT) terminal in Augusta GA. Quality Terminals, a division of Quality Carriers, Tampa FL, has been selected to operate the facility. Quality Terminals also operates Norfolk Southern TBT facilities at Columbus OH and Spartanburg SC. The facilities transfer bulk products, such as plastic pellets and liquid sweeteners, from one mode of transportation to another.

The Augusta facility will enhance Norfolk Southern's network of 29 existing TBT terminals located in 16 states and allow shippers to increase their distribution options east of Atlanta and throughout the South. The new terminal has 44 car spots with separate tracks for food products and can handle both dry and liquid bulk products. The facility features paving, security, full fencing, lighting, 24-hour access, and truck scales. All TBT terminals are open facilities and allow haulage by qualified motor carriers.

Located at the intersection of Taylor and Mechanics streets, the new terminal has convenient access to Interstate 20. Norfolk Southern's other TBT facilities are located in Atlanta GA, Baltimore MD, Buffalo NY, Charlotte NC, Chattanooga TN, Chicago IL, Cincinnati OH, Cleveland OH, Columbus OH, Dalton GA, Detroit MI, Edgemoor DE, Elizabethport, NJ, Jacksonville FL, Jersey City (Croxton) NJ, Louisville KY, Miami FL, Mobile AL, Paterson NJ, Petersburg VA, Philadelphia PA, Pittsburgh PA, Spartanburg, Whiting IN, Willis MI, and Winston-Salem NC.
