A NEW terminal in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, has become a focal point for international operations at Transpormex SA de CV. Completed in 2003, the terminal was officially inaugurated in late July 2004.
Situated near the Nuevo Laredo airport, the new terminal is fully surrounded with a concrete-block wall and remote-controlled gate. Exterior lighting is more than adequate to aid in nighttime security. Guards are on duty around the clock.
The six-acre facility can accommodate about 60 tractor-trailer rigs, and the parking areas are fully paved. The terminal serves as an interchange point for the US-Mexico operations — both liquid bulk and refrigerated van activity.
A large maintenance shop is one of the highlights of the new terminal, and it is one of the large repair facilities in the Transpormex system. The shop handles a full range of tractor and trailer repairs, and it is open to outside customers.
Engine repairs are a big part of the maintenance service, because the new terminal also serves as a branch office for Converto Dexel. A Transpormex sister company, Converto Dexel has the Cummins engine concession in Mexico. In addition to selling replacement Cummins engines and parts, the company provides a full range of maintenance and training services.
In addition to the repair shop, the Nuevo Laredo terminal has a large parts warehouse that serves the needs of both Converto Dexel and Transpormex. An elaborate tractor refueling area is just inside the main gate, and a dormitory is available for Transpormex drivers who layover at the terminal.
