J J KELLER & Associates Inc introduced behavior-based safety manuals at the National Safety Council Exposition held October 27-29, 1997, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

The safety training experts at Keller have teamed up with Dr E Scott Geller, a leader in the applied behavioral science field, to develop Practical Behavior-Based Safety, a manual outlining the step-by-step process for implementing behavior-based safety.

The manual is divided into four modules. Module One provides an introduction to the basic principles of behavior-based safety and describes its uses within an organization. Module Two outlines methods of observation and feedback including Geller's "Do It" process: defining target behaviors to influence; observing behaviors; intervening with activators and consequences; and testing the impact of the intervention process.

Module Three examines motivational techniques to promote safe behavior and to facilitate employee involvement. Module Four explains procedures for evaluating and sustaining safety improvement. It provides evaluation tools ranging from perception surveys to behavioral and environmental audit forms to help an organization maintain continuous safety process improvement.
