ILTA to feature Apollo 13 flight director at International Operating Conference

GENE Kranz, Apollo 13 mission flight director, will headline the annual Independent Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) 25th annual International Operating Conference & Trade Show June 6-8 in Houston Texas.

Kranz will be the keynote speaker at the June 6 luncheon where he will discuss: Failure is Not an Option. Kranz was leader of the Tiger Team of flight directors who brought the Apollo 13 crew and its spacecraft safely back to Earth April 17, 1970.

At 8:45 am June 7, Nancy Yamaguchi of Trans-Energy Research Associates will discuss petroleum's changing markets and new opportunities.

Among interest to the tank truck industry is a discussion June 6 on tank truck wetlines: How DOT's Purging Rule Would Affect Terminals by Ron and Roy Andenmatten, Cargo Tank Concepts.

The conference's general sessions get underway June 6, beginning at 8:45 am with a regulatory update that includes spill reporting, emergency response procedures, Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) plans, pipeline safety, hazardous materials, and coast guard security.

The panel includes Steve Mason and Don Smith, Environmental Protection Agency; John Jacobi and Aubrey Campbell, Department of Transportation; and Christy Rutherford, US Coast Guard.

Another session includes discussions of operations and industry updates. Among the topics and speakers are

The conference continues June 7 with a Tank Standards Forum, Steel Tank Institute Standard on Shop Built Tanks, Chuck Travelstead, Brown Minneapolis Tank; 650 and 653: Update on New and Proposed Changes, Roland Goodman, American Petroleum Institute; and Exempting Brittle Fracture Assessments from SPCC Requirements, Phil Myers, ChevronTexaco.

Post-Conference Workshops

Attendees will have an opportunity to expand their conference experience by attending one or more of three post-conference sessions. A separate fee is charged for each session.
