THE INDEPENDENT Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) annual Operating Conference and Trade Show, scheduled June 11-13, will spotlight the industry and the issues that impact it. The meeting at the Adams Mark Hotel in Houston, Texas, features two days of seminars that will cover technology, federal regulations, management, safety, and crisis response. Three tours of Houston terminals also are on the schedule.
Storage facility tours will be conducted Tuesday, June 12, at the Houston Fuel Oil Terminal Co and Teppco Scada Control Center. On Wednesday, June 13, a tour of Intercontinental Terminals Co is scheduled.
Keynote speaker William Greehey opens the meeting Monday. Greehey, chairman and chief executive officer for Valero Energy Corporation, will discuss “High Flying Times in the Energy Business — Why They Will Last.”
Valero Energy owns and operates six refineries in Texas, Louisiana, California, and New Jersey, with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 950,000 barrels per day, according to company information.
Four concurrent sessions will follow the keynote address from 10:15 am until 11:30 am. They include:
Aggressive Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Enforcement — Response Strategies will be the topic of Austin Olney of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae; Linda Kuhn, environmental attorney with Campbell, George & Strong LLP; and Ronald Zdrojeski of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae.
Storage Tank and Foundation Design and Construction will be the topic discussed by Kord Wissmann, vice-president, Geopier Foundation and Ty Hagen, president of Hagen Engineering International Inc.
Managing Tanks, Trucks, and Employees Responsible for Them is the topic for discussion by Philip Myers of Chevron Products Co and Phillip Abraira, division vice-president, DSI Transport Inc, a division of Trimac Transportation System.
New Pollution Potential and Prevention will be the subject of David Rice, group leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and Tarik Hadj-Hamou, senior project engineer, GeoSyntec Consultants.
