Frank Brooks of Georgia Tank Lines won the grand champion Eddie Elliott Memorial award, given to the driver obtaining the highest overall score, at the Georgia Truck Driving Championships. This event was conducted May 18-19, 2001, by the Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA) Safety Management Council at the Atlanta Airport Marriott.

The competition is held annually to showcase Georgia's top professional drivers and to select contestants for the National Truck Driving Championships in Minneapolis MN in August.

A record 158 drivers were required to complete a written test on the trucking industry, safe-driving rules, first-aid, and firefighting; perform a vehicle inspection testing the ability to discover planted defects; and negotiate a precision driving course within a preset time limit.
