A monster.com Super Bowl commercial this year featuring a driverless and out-of-control tractor trailer has raised the ire of many in the trucking industry, and prompted a letter to the company's chief executive officer from the acting administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

FMCSA's Annette Sandberg wrote to Jeff Taylor, criticizing the ad as misrepresenting the trucking industry and intimating that truck drivers are unsafe drivers. She asked Taylor to consider joining forces with FMCSA and the industry "so that together we can promote responsible trucking and attract a new generation of proud, hard-working Americans to this vital job."

The ad was an effort by monster.com to promote its job search service for truck drivers.

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) also objected to the ad, noting that "the ad completely ignores the trucking industry's positive highway safety record, the professionalism of our 3.1 million drivers, and the more than 10 million Americans--and likely Super Bowl viewers--who deliver America's freight safely, efficiently, and on time."

The ATA Web site, truckline.com, has a link that leads to another site that contains the ad for viewing. Click here to reach the ATA site and for more information about the issue and how to join the protest.
