To enhance security of United States chemical facilities, Fred Webber, president and chief executive officer of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), has signed an agreement with National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) Director Ronald Dick in support of the newly established Chemical Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC).
This public/private sector partnership will allow security-related information to move between the multi-agency NIPC, based at Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Washington DC, and firms that make and use chemical products.
The Chemical Sector ISAC will be operated by the Chemical Transportation Emergency Center (CHEMTREC), ACC's emergency response communications center.
The ISAC communication network will allow the NIPC to exchange and analyze critical threat and incident information with the chemical industry, covering both physical and cyber information. Additionally, the ISAC will provide chemical and related transportation facilities with timely information about possible threats so increased security or other pre-emptive measures can be taken. The ISAC also will provide experts to consult directly with the NIPC, as needed.
Free of charge, participation in the ISAC is open to ACC members, members of other chemical trade associations, and other organizations in the chemical sector value chain, including transportation.
