The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has signed its 100th partner in the SmartWay Transport Partnership. EPA also unveiled its new public service announcement campaign, “Products on Wheels,” for the partnership. This campaign is designed to encourage freight shippers and carriers to join SmartWay.

By signing J&R Schugel Trucking Inc of New Ulm MN as the 100th partner, SmartWay has nearly doubled membership in the nine months since its February 2004 launch.

SmartWay is a national voluntary program developed by EPA and freight industry representatives to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution and promote cleaner, more efficient ground freight transportation. By 2012, it aims to reduce as much as 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions annually.
