The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is monitoring air quality at about 60 locations in the Kansas City KS area after a storage tank fire burned for more than two days at the Magellan Midstream Partners petroleum distribution terminal, according to EPA information.
The fire began in the evening of June 3 and was extinguished early in the morning of June 6, according to information in the Kansas City Star.
EPA said that fire department officials believe the fire was started when lightning struck on or near a storage tank containing approximately 1.2 million gallons of unleaded gasoline. EPA also said initial air sampling for particulate matter indicated only minor detections.
