A BOC truck driver who has driven safely for nearly 40 years has become the firm's eighth driver inducted into the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) Driver Hall of Fame.
This marks the sixth consecutive year a BOC driver has been named to this Hall of Fame. John Tedford, based at BOC's Gonzales LA depot, is the firm's latest Hall of Famer.
To be elected to the NPTC Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire, a driver must be an employee of an NPTC member company and have met the minimum qualifications of 20 years, 2 million miles, or 50,000 hours of driving without a preventable accident.
Tedford has driven safely for more than 3.4 million miles — the equivalent of 140 trips around the world — since he began working for BOC in 1968. The New Orleans native now averages just under 2,000 miles a week behind the wheel.
For the past 10 years, he has served as BOC's driver trainer, traveling to California and Illinois to train employees on safety behaviors.
