Nationwide hearings are scheduled November 15, 2006, through April 19, 2007, to explore short and long-term alternatives to replace or supplement the fuel tax as the Highway Trust Fund's principal revenue source over the next 30 years, according to information from the Department of Transportation (DOT).
The National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission will conduct the meetings and also will discuss the condition and future needs of the nation's surface transportation system.
The hearings will allow input from federal, state and local transportation officials and experts, as well as the general public, regarding transportation needs and solutions in their regions.
