In response to the recent National Distracted Driving Summit held in Washington DC, Smith System is offering its distracted-driving video free of charge to organizations interested in promoting safety for their employees.
The video, entitled Are You Playing with a Full Deck?, shows how distractions such as cell phones and texting affect the ability to concentrate on changes in traffic patterns while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) now lists distractions as the number one cause of traffic accidents.
The two-day summit, called by Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, brought federal, state, and local officials and interested industry representatives together to focus on actions being taken to curb the use of cell phones and texting while driving. LaHood announced during the summit that President Obama had signed an executive order banning federal employees from text messaging while driving on the job or in a government-owned vehicle.
