The average price of on-road diesel last week rose almost six cents per gallon from the week before, topping out at $2.685, according to information from the Department of Energy (DOE).
Low sulfur diesel prices were up over seven cents per gallon at $2.657. Ultra low sulfur rang up at the pump at $2.695, an increase of 5.5 cents per gallon from the week before.
DOE is providing ultra low sulfur diesel prices a short period of time because of the small and diminishing number of outlets selling the fuel as ultra low sulfur diesel takes over the market because of Environmental Protection Agency mandates. The data on the price of low sulfur diesel may be discontinued without advanced notice when the number of outlets at the US level is too small to estimate an accurate price, DOE said.
