Four Democratic congressmen have asked the General Accounting Office (GAO) to study the ability of the United States and Mexico to ensure the safe condition of Mexican trucks, according to a spokesman at the GAO.

Representatives John D. Dingell (D-MI), James Oberstar (D-MN), Edolphus Towns (D-NY), and Robert A. Borski (D-PA) stated in a letter to David Walker, the comptroller general, that they are concerned about the lack of truck safety inspection stations at certain border crossings and a generalized shortage of qualified inspectors. The letter also mentioned concerns about air quality as it is related to Mexican trucks.
